KOREA EMBRACES LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO ASIA
All titles remain up for grabs heading into penultimate double-header on Asian soil
Round four of the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia season will enjoy strong local support as it heads to South Korea’s challenging 3.908km Inje Speedium from July 18-20. Amongst the mighty fleet of Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 race cars contesting the penultimate double-header held on Asian soil this year will be four entered by local teams and featuring a trio of exciting Korean drivers.
Leading Lamborghini Super Trofeo squad Racegraph enters three cars for the Inje Speedium encounter, all supported by Lamborghini Bundang. In the PRO class, local driver Lee Jungwoo reunites with China’s Peter Li Zhicong, currently third on the leaderboard. The pair have raced successfully together since round two in Shanghai, so far taking a PRO victory plus three podiums together.
In the second Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph car is Gerald Eng Peng Goh of Malaysia, currently third in the Lamborghini Cup standings. Goh is joined by Korean driver Kim Sangho for round four. In addition, the team enters a third Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 in Inje for Japanese PRO driver Yugo Tanabe.
A star of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia since he joined the series in 2023 is reigning AM champion, Korean Brian Lee Changwoo. He will be looking forward to racing on home turf with his local team SQDA-GRIT Motorsport. Competing in the PRO-AM ranks this season where he is currently second, Lee reunites with team mate Liang Jiatong of China, absent from the Fuji Speedway round in June and replaced there by Japan’s Kohei Tokumasu.
The 2025 PRO, PRO-AM, AM and Lamborghini Cup titles all remain wide open as the series heads into the second half of the season, with six more closely-fought encounters ahead before November’s World Finals in Misano, Italy.
In the PRO class, SJM Theodore Racing’s Charles Leong Hon Chio and series newcomer Alex Denning continue to lead the way. Four wins and two podiums in six races in the DW Evans GT-run Lamborghini sees them head to Korea with a 24-point advantage over Leipert Motorsport’s Ethan Brown of Singapore. Brown, who visits Korea for the first time this week, reunites with round three team mate Nikolas Pirttilahti of Finland having taken a PRO podium finish together in Japan.
The BC Racing PRO powerhouse of Monegasque Jonathan Cecotto and Chinese Taipei youngster Gavin Huang will doubtless bring their ‘A’ game to Korea. Despite three podiums, victory has so far proved frustratingly elusive this season putting them fourth on the PRO leaderboard.
Emilien Carde, who sits three points behind his BC Racing rivals, teams up at DW Evans GT with 17-year-old British-Vietnamese junior single seater talent Alex Sawer. Ho Chi Minh City-born Sawer only began his racing career in 2023, and currently leads the F4 South East Asia Championship with Evans GP. He makes his Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia debut in Korea alongside Carde.
Topping the PRO-AM leaderboard at the season mid-point is the LK Motorsport by Climax Racing duo of Liu Kaishun and Cao Qikuan with a 15-point – the equivalent of one race win – advantage over SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Lee. Two unlucky races compromised the points tally of Lu Zhiwei and Ling Kang in the sister LK Motorsport by Climax Racing car, but a PRO-AM win in Fuji allowed them to showcase their true potential. They lie third, two points ahead of Z.Speed’s Chen Chunhua. Chen reunites once again with 28-year-old German Tim Zimmerman with whom he took a podium finish on their series debut together last month.
Arrows Racing’s Dr. Ma Chi Min and former FIA World Endurance Championship star Weiron Tan of Malaysia will be on the hunt for a repeat of their Shanghai PRO-AM podium in Korea, as will father-and-son duo Johnson and Brian Huang.
Talented New Zealander Brendon Leitch and team mate Song Jiajun of China made an eye-catching season debut together in Japan, following up a race one PRO-AM podium with a class win and second overall finish. The formidable duo returns for Korea with the Leipert Motorsport squad, currently second in the 2025 rankings behind SJM Theodore Racing.
The AM contingent is led by long-time series supporter Suttiluck Buncharoen, who drives his True Vision Motorsports Thailand Lamborghini solo and tops the leaderboard with a 16-point lead. The quick, experienced Thai’s closest rivals are Malaysian brothers and reigning Lamborghini Cup champions Haziq and Hairie Oh of HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing. However, it’s tight at the top and just two points behind them are series newcomers, Indonesians Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing.
Climax Racing’s Li Dongshen and Li Donghui made a sensational series debut in Sydney by taking the opening AM victory of the season, following that success up with a class podium in race two. However, the pair subsequently hit an unlucky spell to drop them down the leaderboard before making a triumphant return to the AM podium in Japan. Climax Racing team mates Yao Liangbo and Zhang Yaqi joined the series in Japan, taking a podium on their debut, and return for the Korea round.
Siamgas Corse’s Supachai Weeraborwornpong leads the Lamborghini Cup points after six races, the Thai driver adding to his advantage after title rival Kumar Prabakaran of Malaysia was forced to miss the second race in Fuji. The usually-solo Batmobile Racing driver teamed up with Japan’s Shinji Takei in Fuji, the pair taking a class podium on their debut together. Takei went on to win the class in race two, and the pair reunite in Korea where they will be looking to eradicate their points deficit to Supachai. Third in the standings and very much in title contention is Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Goh.
The sweeping Inje Speedium is set against the mountainous backdrop of Gangwon State located in the northwest of Korea, approximately 140km from the country’s capital Seoul. The majestic circuit opened in 2013 and offers drivers the thrill of exhilarating elevation changes and challenging turns. The FIA Grade 2 track regularly hosts a number of local, regional and international events.
A 90-minute unofficial practice session on Friday, 18 July opens Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia round four, and provides those making their Inje Speedium debuts with a crucial opportunity become acquainted with the challenging track. Two, one-hour official practice runs follow, with two 15-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday morning setting the grid for each of the 50-minute plus leader races. Race one begins at 16:15 local time on Saturday, with race two getting underway at 12:30 on Sunday (all times UTC+9). Both races will be live streamed on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse YouTube channel.
