ADAC GT Masters
The ADAC GT Masters is one of Europe’s leading GT3 racing championships, bringing together professional and semi-professional drivers to compete in high-performance sports cars from manufacturers such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi, BMW, Aston Marin and Mercedes-AMG. Established in 2007 and organised by Germany’s ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club), the series is known for its close, competitive racing thanks to Balance of Performance regulations that ensure different cars can compete on equal terms.
ADAC GT Masters, is a key support series for the premier GT racing championship, DTM. The series runs on many of the same European circuits and weekends, attracting over 300,000 fans per season, and provides high-level GT3 competition that complements and prepares drivers for careers in Sportscar racing.
The Format
The championship primarily races in Germany but also visits Austria and Netherlands as part of its calendar. These events take place at some of Europe’s most well-known racing circuits, including the Nürburgring, Hockenheimring, Red Bull Ring and Circuit Zandvoort. This mix of circuits, ranging from fast, flowing layouts to technical tracks adds variety and challenge to the championship, testing drivers across different racing conditions and environments.
The ADAC GT Masters features a race format built around both sprint and endurance competition, designed to test speed, consistency, and teamwork. A typical race weekend includes two sprint races (60 Min), each with two drivers sharing one car and completing a mandatory pit stop with a driver change. In addition, the calendar usually includes two endurance rounds (80), which are longer races that place a greater emphasis on strategy, tyre management, and sustained performance over time. This combination of sprint and endurance racing creates a well-rounded championship, challenging drivers to adapt to different race conditions while working closely with their teammates to deliver consistent results.
